It’s hard to believe that we now consider a 20km hike through the rolling hills of Galicia, an ‘easy’ day when three short weeks ago we struggled to walk much more than 10km. Santiago is almost in sight with less than 45km to go and our bodies have fully adapted to our daily routine.
Over the past three weeks we have adapted our bodies and as a family to a ‘system’ that enables us to sustain daily 23+km efforts through varied terrain and climates (which is as much a mental exercise as it is a physical one when walking with kids) when we compliment these efforts with sufficient rest and recovery (including cleaning, fueling up and sleep).
It will be very interesting to see how the kids respond when we finish the Camino. But first, two more days to savor before we arrive in Santiago.
